Hall warden Lynda awarded for service

-

A COMMUNITY stalwart has been praised for her hard work for local people.

Lynda Gray, the warden of Evergreen Hall in Angel Street, Bridgend, has been awarded for her tireless efforts for the community over a period of 20 years.

The Evergreen and Lynda have been linked to many local community groups and she has overseen the recreational activities of many thousands of local residents over her long tenure.

Making a special presentation of the Bridgend Town Council plaque, Bridgend Mayor Stuart Baldwin congratulated Lynda on an exceptional dedication to the many local groups who have enjoyed the venue over so many years.

Evergreen is separate from the town council and exists as a facility operating under a lease from BCBC and subject to Charity Commission rules.

All town councillors are trustees of the venue and the longest-serving councillor, David Unwin, who’s been there for 34 years, paid tribute to Lynda for her dedication to the hall.

Coun Unwin said: “Without Lynda’s care and attention to the user groups over so many years, the Evergreen could not have operated in the way we have come to appreciate, but economic times have caused a change in direction of the way the hall has to operate and the recent securing of a substantial grant gives us all the opportunity to take the hall in a new direction for all future community uses.”

The Evergreen remains fully open for current and potential new users. You can find out more by calling the town clerk on 01656 815757.
