ABERKENFIG & COYTRAHEN

- With Carwyn Jones AM Gerry Lewis

TWO weeks ago, the Welsh Government launched a consultation on its proposal to change the health board boundary in Bridgend.

People are being invited to give their views on the proposal that healthcare services in the Bridgend County Borough Council area should transfer across to Cwm Taf University Health Board from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

I know many of my constituents will have been aware of this proposal and I would encourage people to respond to the consultation.

The Welsh Government is committed to ensure that all aspects of the proposal are properly considered. Therefore, it is important that people give their opinions on not just the principle of the boundary change but also the key practicalities of taking it forward.

For example, people will be asked to consider whether they agree changing the health board boundary would strengthen partnership working arrangements for Bridgend council, local authorities and other partners and whether April 1, 2019 for the boundary change to take effect is realistic and achievable. The proposal is an administrative change not a service change.

One reason for change is to bring Bridgend CBC in line with other local authorities in Wales in terms of its partnership arrangements.

Currently, Bridgend CBC is working to develop and maintain links with multiple strategic partners. In driving economic activity, the council works with local authorities in south east Wales and with regard to healthcare services, the council currently works with local authorities in south west Wales within the ABM UHB area.

If the change is implemented, it would place Bridgend CBC within the south east Wales regional area, working in partnership with other local authorities in that strategic area across economic activity, health services and education partnerships.

The consultation will run until March 7, 2018. Send Your News To: Old Police House, Maesteg Road, Tondu Cf32 9dw 01656 725911 07779 870137 G_ j_ lewis2002@ Yahoo. Co. Uk
