Raffle: The raffle held at the recent Bridgend Lions club ‘Santa Grotto’ Carnegie House (former Library) Wyndham Street was a great success.

Santa drew the lucky raffle number on the last day of his visit to Bridgend (December 16th) before he flew back to the North Pole , and the ‘Hamper’ was won by Esther from Coychurch Road Gardens, well done Esther. Bridgend Lions were delighted that the ‘Hamper, which was sponsored by Sainsbury’s raised £ 500 for local charities. Many thanks go to Elaine, Moira, Ian, and Nicole from Bridgend History Society for helping with the raffle and also thanks to Julia. And of course the Lions themselves and ( lady Lions).

Tree Festival: The final count of the Christmas Tree Festival held at Nolton Church recently has yet to be communicat­ed, but early indication­s were that an amount in the region of £ 2,300 was raised by the Festival.

Thanks once again to all who helped, contribute­d or supported in any way, there are a couple of raffle prizes unclaimed after the Christmas Tree Festival draw, did anyone sell a ticket to Iain Benson, or to an R Hudson ?

If so, please put them in touch with the Rector at Nolton Church.

Also thanks, too, to Marcia for organising this year’s Advent Lunches, and all who helped as cooks, waitresses and all who supported with their patronage, church members of Nolton are very grateful to you all.

A big thank you for all those who participat­ed in this pre- Christmas great event, the first ever of its kind in our town, to, the seamstress­es with the most amazing costumes made with a variety of fabrics; those volunteer actors and actresses who gave us Oscar – winning performanc­es, (including Reverend Father Mike Komor as a “Wise Man” and Reverend Mark Broadway, as a ( magnificen­t centurion), bringing the Greatest Story on Earth to school children and our townsfolk and beyond.

The audiences were dazzled by the innovative stage lighting also and powerful audio-script transformi­ng the Tabernacl Chapel in Derwen Road into a spectacula­r theatrical auditorium.

Thank you again for your greatly appreciate­d participat­ion.

Dr Suzy Rogers was the Director, and she was working with Stage Director Yvonne Hudd.

Sympathy: Much love and sympathy to Christine Pepell on the the loss of her very dear husband Jim who passed away recently at the Princess of Wales Hospital after a short stay at the hospital.

Christmas Decoration­s: Rhiw Shopping Centre and the town Christmas tree are still shinning brightly and the ‘Cross’ above Newcastle Church shines over the town with much pride. I love my town. Not to forget the pretty lights in the Indoor Market.

Service: We will see Jeff Flanagan from Bridgend leading the next Hospital Christian Fellowship Service which will be held in the Hospital Chapel, Princess of Wales Hospital, Coity Road. The service will be held on Friday December 29th at 3pm.

Women@Hope: will return on Tuesday morning January 23rd at 11am with Mrs Johnston and at 9.30am we will see Mrs Rosemary Rowe leading the Ladies Prayer Group at. All are very welcome. Both the Ladies groups meet in Hope Church Institute, Derwen Road.

Indoor Bowls: is a great way to make new friends and have some exercise. New and experience­d bowlers of all ages are welcome at Ogwr Indoor Club, Bridgend Life Centre, (Rec) Newbridge Fields. Free coaching available every Saturday 10am to noon and Sunday 4pm to 6pm. Just turn up or contact bridgendin­doorbowls@ gmail.com

KPC Youth & Community: We are a charitable organisati­on that provides a safe and nurturing environmen­t for children and young people. KPC is situated off Pyle Inn Way, Pyle, Bridgend ( next to Pil Primary School).

Rebound Fitness: A great way to exercise, in a fun way. Sessions for adults are held on Tuesdays at 6pm and Fridays at 9.15am, £ 1.50 per session.

Walking Rugby: Thursdays, 9.30am for 10am start. All ages and abilities welcome, male and female. £ 1.50 for 40 mins of fun followed by cuppa and chat!

Cwtch Cynffig: For 50 years Kenfig Hill has provided a meeting place for people with disabiliti­es and their carers and the Cwtch Cynffig project continues its good work every Thursday.

Activities include arts and crafts, chair- based exercise, health and well- being sessions. Morning sessions from 10am-12.30pm and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm-4pm.

Sessions costs £ 5, with refreshmen­ts. Lunch is £ 2.50. Call the Community Centre on 01656 749 754.

Bethel Community Church: An incredibly warm welcome awaits you always at Bethel Community Church, in Pwllygath Street, Kenfig Hill, CF33 6ES. Their regular meetings include:

Sundays – Evening service, 6pm; Tuesdays – Tea & Toast, 10am- 12noon, ( free to all the community); Fellowship Meeting, 7.30pm.

Messy Play Sessions: Tuesdays (term time only), 10.30am- 11.30am. Just £ 2 and includes a cuppa! Ideal for babies that can sit up unaided up until age two years.

This a fabulous opportunit­y for toddlers to explore and learn about textures through play while their parents, grandparen­ts or carers have a chat and a cuppa, socialise and make new friends.
