PORTHCAWL took a battering when Storm Eleanor roared in.

The storm hit much of Wales last Wednesday with winds of up to 79mph, tearing down trees, leaving hundreds of homes without power and hitting transport links.

Slates were ripped off the side of the Harbour Bar & Kitchen, which opened in the Jennings Building last summer. Pictures were posted on Facebook by Paul Evans.

Large chunks of rock were also left strewn across public walkways and pavements, while steps leading down to the beach were also left impassable.

A number of social media users commented on the effects of the storm in the Facebook group Porthcawl First.

One user said: “Took a battering fair play”.

Another said: “The power of the sea is spectacular and frightening. Do not take it lightly - it kills.”

Porthcawl RNLI’s boathouse was partially flooded by the high tide.

Bridgend council workers cleared up the debris which had washed onto the seafront.
