NATHANIEL CARS WELSH LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

-

SUBSTITUTE Nathan Petit knocked in an injurytime winner to condemn Caerau to a heartbreaking defeat at the Tredegar Leisure Complex, writes Tony Poole.

With the game seemingly drifting towards a 2-2 outcome, Petit was in the right spot at the right time to exploit a defensive blunder, and he beat star stopper Matthew Rees from close in.

In a game that saw all four seasons wrapped into one weather wise, the Riverboaters shone during the opening half with golden boy Dale Price and Paul Evans the standout performers.

Caerau dictated play and went ahead on the half-hour mark when Evans and Price combined in sweet fashion.

Price played in Lewis Kingdon, who went on to level with Jack Page on top of the club goal chart via eight goals for the season.

Soon after goalkeeper Rees made a superb save only for the ball to run to Sam James in a seemingly off-side position.

However, the referee thought otherwise, and James went on to card a fortuitous equaliser.

But Caerau had the lead at half time after a poor clearance ran into the path of Paul Evans.

And happy wanderer Evans, back on the Caerau scene this term from parks grade, smashed home a superb 40-metre volley.

It was his first Caerau goal since March 5, 2016 when scoring in a 4-2 loss against Ely Rangers at Station Road.

Tredegar then came on strong during the second half, and goalkeeper Rees had to pull off a magnificent 55th-minute save.

But they did square matters on the hour after Jack Cullinane was brought down in the box, and Ian Petit scored from the spot.

Caerau then had a decent penalty shout turned down ahead of the last-gasp Nathan Petit winner.

And with major work being performed on the Heads of the Valley road, Caerau spent Saturday night in Heartbreak Hotel.

Caerau host Chepstow Town on Saturday in the league.
