BRYNCOCH ................. 24 PYLE ............................. 31

PYLE travelled to Bryncoch with no illusions that this was going to be an easy game, but with a win last weekend over local rivals Porthcawl there was definitely confidence in the Pyle camp.

With a few players pulling out with a last-minute illness and the injury list high, Pyle had to rely on a mixture of young and old to get the win.

It was the home side that went ahead with a converted try in the first 20 minutes.

Pyle were awarded a penalty for foul play and within kicking distance outside half Will Gallafant stepped up to convert.

Pyle were now showing confidence and captain Rory Bodenham rallying the troops as always and moving the ball around the field.

The ball was spread wide and hooker Kieran Tomlin, acting as an extra winger, went over for a converted try by Gallafant.

Bryncoch were now on the back foot and tempers flaring from both sides it was Pyle that were awarded the penalty which was slotted over by Gallafant.

The Pyle pack was going that extra mile and it was again Pyle who were awarded a penalty for foul play and Gallafant converted it to make the score 7-16 at half-time.

Soon after the second half Pyle got back on the score sheet with a strong run by winger David Pound to go over for an unconverted try.

There was good work around the pitch from Nathanial James, Daniel Forester and Jamie Townsend that got the ball out to centre Tom Ansen to go over for an unconverted try.

Bryncoch were trying to play rugby but it Pyle’s defensive game was proving too strong and the ball being won and the backs showing good basic skills.

Right winger Rhys Ansen went over for an unconverted try. With a slight drop of heads Bryncoch scored two tries with the game almost wrapped up the home side didn’t give up and kept plugging away scoring another converted try to make the score 24-31 at the final whistle.

The man of the match awards went to Rory Bodenham (backs) and Nathanial James (forwards).

Pyle’s next game is on Saturday at home to Glais RFC.
