Jones signs for Cefn
CEFN Cribwr Football Club have enhanced prospects of playing in Highadmit South Wales Alliance Premier Division next season in signing Thomas Jones from Division Two side Llanharry, writes Tony Poole.
The Riders, who are currently top the Division One table, are delighted to have obtained the signature of Jones, nicknamed TJ, as he is a proven goal scorer.
Last season the 27-yearold hitman helped propel Llanharry out of the Celtic Tyres Bridgend & District League during a notable treble-winning campaign.
In the last two seasons he scored an astonishing 116 goals while his goalscoring prowess has also surfaced with Porthcawl club Seagull FC in the Bridgend & District Sunday League.
Jones will be added to a potent Cefn frontline that already possesses an abundance of clout in captain Tom Harris, playmaker Daniel Jenkins and rising star Ioan Clatworthy, who is also on the books of Bridgend super club Penybont.
These three players between them have got 33 of the 67 team goals that the Riders have netted in league and cup ties this season.
Last Saturday, Jones was added to the Cefn match-day squad for the intended big derby clash at home to Garw, but it was postponed owing to the saturated state of the Cae Gof pitch.
It led to all-round disappointment, as the clash would have given a further pointer as to who will last the pace best in the promotion race.
And this Saturday the Riders have another massive game, away to fourthplaced Trebanog.
An experienced Trebanog side has pulled off some fine results of late, and they are expected to be involved in the final promotion shake-up during the business end of the season.
Going into the Coliseum clash, leaders Cefn hold a four-point advantage over FC Cwmaman, who beat AFC Butetown 6-0 last weekend.
Trebanog in fourth place won 3-0 at Llantwit Fardre while one place lower AFC Whitchurch carded a 6-1 home victory over Cogan Coronation.
