-

IN DIVISION ONE the battle to avoid the drop is beginning to hot up with four teams in the mix with a huge gap now opening up between them and the rest of the league.

Bottom side the GWR A, who have been struggling to raise a full side this season, were hoping for a better result this week as they took on one of the sides involved in the relegation dogfight, the Coity A.

The Coity boys got off to a perfect start taking the threes 2-0, the railway men had the better of the pairs as they trailed 3-2 going in to the singles.

Andrew Phillips put the home side 4-2 ahead as he won the first singles leg but the canteen boys pulled one back as a 180 from Roy Mills saw him take the next. Ken Richards restored the Coity’s two-leg advantage as he claimed the next. The game turned as the Railway took the lead as Fred Blank, Mal Hookings and Steve Morrell claimed the next three legs to put the away side 6-5 ahead and on the brink of their first victory of the season. Captain Ted Brain stepped up to the oche but alas fell short as Andrew James took the deciding leg for the Coity to salvage a 6-6 draw.

The Coity B remain second in Division One as they put some daylight between themselves and third spot with a 9-3 victory over the Colliers.

The Penybont extended their lead at the top to 15 points as they hammered the Five Bells 111. Lee Hapgood claiming the Bell mens only point sending Mark Ludlow to the 6-1 club and Tim Jones hitting a 15-dart leg for the footballers.

One of the games of the night saw the Social play host to the Jolliers. All square after the threes the Jolliers edged the pairs to lead 3-2 after the opening exchanges. Bleddyn Lyons hitting a 180 for the Social in his pairs leg.

John Picton levelled things up as he took the opening singles leg for the Social with Iorrie Jones taking the next to put the away side back in front.

Shaun Keepin made the score 4-4 as he claimed the third singles leg but the Jolliers pulled away as a 180 from Russell Wilks in his win and victories for Tim Pound, Lyndon Phillip and a 114 out from Preston Richardson gave the Jolliers an 8-4 winning scoreline to move up to joint third level on points with the Social.

In Division Two current leaders the GWR B were held to a 6-6 draw away to the White Horse.

With the canteen boys drawing, the BUSC B were looking to make up some ground in their away game against the West House. Missed doubles cost the war office dearly as they found themselves trailing 4-1 after the threes and pairs. Charlie Turrell hitting a 180 for the service men.

Christian Bayliss pulled one back for the away side but victories for Martin Timbrell and Stu Clements put the House men 6-2 in front and one away from victory. Wayne Perry took the next for the war office to give them some hope of salvaging a draw with three to play, but it was Dai Thomas who took the next to secure a 7-5 victory for the West and inflict a first defeat of the season on the servicemen. Peter Taylor and Ray Morris claimed the last two legs for the BUSC.

The Cabo Kings moved up to third and within striking distance of second spot as they won their derby game against the Cabo 10-2. Caeron Hyde sending Gavin Cawley to the infamous 6-1 club.
