LEAGUE WEST GLAMORGAN CROSS COUNTRY

MORGAN Davies (Bridgend) claimed second place in the fourth event of the West Glamorgan Cross Country League that was staged earlier in the month at Eglwys Nunydd Reservoir in Margam.

The event was hosted by Tata Steel Multi-Sports Club, and it attracted 246 male competitor­s.

Davies finished in 28 minutes 28 seconds, and was a mere eight seconds behind winner Guy Smith (Tata Steel).

Third place was secured by Matthew Harvey (Swansea Harriers) in a time of 30:18.

Other local competitor­s with fine times were Dave Bennett (Porthcawl Runners) 35:30 (48th), Graeme Rand (Bridgend) 35:35 (49th), Geraint Lewis (Porthcawl Runners) 36:17 (54th), Ian Ogilvie 36:24 (58th), John Lloyd (both Brackla Harriers) 36:50 (63rd), Rob Bennett (Porthcawl Runners) 36:53 (66th), Gareth Danter-Hill (Cornelly Striders) 37:29 (76th) and Will Edwards (Porthcawl Runners) 37:36 (78th).

The correspond­ing female race was contested by 160 runners with Llinos Jones (Amman Valley Harriers) winning the day in 35:06 from Claire Bunce 35:16 and her Swansea Harriers companion Hannah Munday 35:29.

Melanie Williams (Brackla Harries) was the top finisher from local clubs in 36:50 while other decent times came from Deborah Goule (Porthcawl Runners) 38:15 (8th), Charlotte Johns (Brackla Harriers) 40:37 (14th), Jennet James 42:40 (19th), Fleur Jones (both Cornelly Striders) 43:38 (24th), Josephine Bishop 43:42 (26th) and Clare DunbarBowe­n (both Ogmore Phoenix Runners) 43:46 (27th).

The next meeting on the West Glamorgan Cross Country calendar is being staged at Margam Park this Sunday, and is being hosted by the Run4All club in Neath.

The final event of the season is the Aberavon Beach race on March 4, and this is being organised by Port Talbot Harriers.
