COED-Y-MWSTWR

-

SENIOR club captain Mal Brooks shot to victory last week in a Senior Stableford non-qualifier at Coed-y-Mwstwr.

His regimental winning score was 38 points, but he required countback to see off Clive Dyke.

A birdie three over the trees on number 16 set up the victory for 19-handicapper Brooks, and he matched par on three occasions.

The moment in the sun for Toffee-loving Dyke came on hole eight where he sank a putt for a birdie two.

Third-place honours on par 36 points went to Jonny McEachen (eight pars) while another par man was Brian John.

William Jones entered the soon to be updated Sam Bevan snug with 35 points to finish one point in front of three competitors – Peter Ashman, last year’s Senior captain David B Ford-Williams and financial wizard John Rogers. Richard Seldon signed for 33 points with Porthcawl star David Evans and Tony Powell both firing 32 points.

The big surprises of the day came from hot property Dai (Maesteg) Thomas, who could only manage 29 points, and another big gun, D R Stead, was a further three points back.

The only other two recorded on the day came from Trevor Duggan, who sank a birdie putt on the 11th green.

Last Saturday, a Fourball Team Stableford was held in wet conditions, and victory on 132 points went to Sean Boga-Lake, Simon Lake, Luke Morgan and Stephen Stock.

Runners-up on 129 points were Geoffrey P Evans, Brian John, Martyn Leigh and Stephen McAllen, and they finished five points clear of Steve Gillet, Jeffrey Harding, Vincent Harding and Christopher Mason. Fourth-place was taken by Peter Ashman, Wayne T Burnell, Brian Day and Andrew Goss who ran up 122 points.
