TRETHOMAS BLUEBIRDS .................... 0 CAERAU ......................... 2

CAERAU soon had Trethomas Bluebirds on the carpet and went on to gain a second successive win, writes Tony Poole.

Having ended a bleak run of form against Chepstow Town, another 2-0 win for Caerau has given their campaign impetus.

There were fears that the Riverboaters would be like a fish out of water on the Ystrad Mynach mat, but the deep pile was to the liking of star men Ryan Morgan and golden boy Dale Price.

They hit the carpet running, and were in the ascendancy after taking a 20th-minute lead.

Price sent speedster Lewis Kingdon on his way, and he rode two challenges before crossing for top scorer Jack Page to head in.

His 10th goal of the season did rouse the lowflying Bluebirds, but they didn’t trouble goalie Matt Rees with a pair of headers.

Price sent a dipping shot just over the cross bar right on the half-time whistle, and Caerau led 1-0 at the changeover.

The theme during the early second half exchanges was set by home goalkeeper Gareth Williams, who continually frustrated the Riverboaters via a string of tip-top saves.

Two stinging efforts to deny both Caerau wasp Nathan Watkins and Kingdon almost beggared belief

However, in the 75th minute, star-stopper Rees earned his corn with a terrific save before the Riverboaters put the points to bed.

Price was at his impish best in picking out Watkins with a superb pass, and goalkeeper Williams again intervened.

But this time he could only deflect the ball into the path of Joel Joseph, and he duly tapped in.

But the victory was achieved at a cost, as striker Page damaged a knee just before half time, and he might be out for sometime.

“This was another good Caerau victory that took us further up the table - hopefully we can get another three points at home to Neuadd Wen on Saturday,” said Caerau chief Adrian Shearan.

Caerau also entertain Newport City a week tonight ( January 31).
