FC PORTHCAWL ........... 9 KENFIG HILL ................. 0

IT DIDN’T take rocket science to work out that FC Porthcawl would steady a rocking boat at the expense of bottom club Kenfig Hill, writes Tony Poole.

Having surprisingly lost 3-1 at Croeserw last time out – a defeat that in all probability ended their slim chances of catching runaway leaders Cwmav- on for the title – the Croft Goch side felt the force of the Green Machine response.

The Rest Bay club had previously carded away wins over Kenfig Hill – in the cup it was 7-0 and 12-1 league – and the treble over the bottom club merely highlighted the sad plight of the former South Wales Amateur League champions.

Though they defended stubbornly for half an hour, there was only going to be one winner once captain Evan Jones fired the Green Machine in front.

The Kenfig Hill response came via clever running in the channels from Nathan Tossell, but they changed ends in arrears by two goals to nil.

Midfield man Josh Slade, making a Porthcawl first-team debut, picked out Dan Burt who duly slotted home.

On the restart an owngoal put the game out of the reach of Kenfig Hill while soon after Joe McCarthy set up a goal for strike partner Ryan Howard.

A Geraint Davies cross then provided top scorer Joe McCarthy with an anything but lucky 13th goal of the campaign for 5-0.

And during the closing stages they went on to ruthlessly expose the Rest Bay visitors with Howard doubling his tally.

The rout was completed by on-song James Brown, Zak Furness and man of the match Dan Burt.

And FC Porthcawl Development Team zoomed to a 5-2 away win over Bryn Rockets in the Reserve Division courtesy of goals from James Kinsella (two), Ryan Black, Jamie Lee Martin and Ben Bryant.
