THE family of a Swansea City fan from Maesteg who died travelling home from one of their games have paid tribute to their “gentle giant”.

Thomas Davies, aged 24, died after the white Vauxhall Corsa he and three others were travelling in left the road and overturned in a wooded area near his home in Maesteg.

The incident happened at 10.50pm on the B4282 just outside the village of Bryn as they were travelling home from the Swansea versus Wolves FA Cup game at the Liberty Stadium on the evening of January 17.

Mr Davies was a passenger in the car and others in the vehicle were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Mr Davies’s mum Angela, her husband Phill, and other family members said he would be forever loved.

“Tom was a happy go lucky, witty son, a gentle giant with a big heart,” they said.

“He leaves behind his two-year-old son Jensen who he loved dearly. Tom leaves behind a massive hole in our lives and hearts.

“He was easy going, the centre and life of a party, he loved to dress up and make people laugh, that was our Tom.

“He didn’t care what people thought, he was too big a character for this life.

“He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends.

“Tom was a massive Swans fan and religiously followed and supported them both at home and away.

“Tom was a big softie, a wonderful, loving son, father, grandson, nephew and cousin, who will be greatly loved and missed.”

Tom’s father Michael and his partner Sue added: “Tom leaves a massive void in our family and our hearts. He was not only my son but also my best friend too. His face lit up a room, when he was with Jensen it was magical. Sorely missed, loved and never forgotten.”

A fundraising page has been set up to raise funds for his family, and has already raised £905. You can donate by visiting: www.gofundme.com/ripthomas-davies-yjb

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old, was arrested by police but has since been released on bail.
