Inquest opened into dad’s death
AN inquest has been opened into the death of a “gentle giant” Swansea City fan from Maesteg who was involved in a car crash while travelling home from one of their games.
Thomas Stanley Davies died after the Vauxhall Corsa he was travelling in as a rear seat passenger overturned in a wooded area at 10.50pm on the evening of January 17.
He and three others were travelling home along the B4282 outside the village of Bryn. They had been to the Swansea versus Wolves FA Cup game at the Liberty Stadium
At Swansea Civic Centre on Tuesday morning, coroner’s officer Mark Adams explained the 24-year-old, of Heol Gelli, Lenor, Maesteg, who had a two-year-old son Jensen, had been taken to Morriston Hospital’s accident and emergency department but died from his injuries the next day, on January 18.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr Stephen Leadbetter on January 26, and the coroner is currently awaiting results of a toxicology report.
The inquest has now been adjourned until July 27 at 10.30am.
A police investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The 24-yearold driver of the car was arrested following the crash, but has since been released on police bail.
Mr Davies’ mum Angela, her husband Phill and other family members paid tribute to Mr Davies after his death, describing him as “a happy go lucky, witty son, a gentle giant with a big heart”.
