Coytrahen Gardening: Coytrahen Gardening Club has meetings at 7pm on the second Wednesday of the month (unless a visit/event is arranged) in Philip Squire Community Centre, Coytrahen. Membership for the year is £10 and is due each January. Guests are welcome at £2 per visit. The AGM and General Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 10. The minutes of the meeting included reports on the Angelton Clinic Garden Project and the Community Garden. The programme for the year was also arranged which includes visits to The National Botanic Garden of Wales (9 May), Gardener’s World Live at the NEC Birmingham (Friday, June 15) and Westonbirt Arboretum in October. Smyrna Pen-Y-Fai: The Sunday school would like to invite the children of the surroundin­g area who are aged four and over to join them on Sunday morning between 10.30am - 12noon for stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work.

The Sunday service is held at 6pm and is led by Rev Alwyn Evans.

All are very welcome to the service and to join us for refreshmen­ts in the vestry afterwards.

Coffee morning is held on Tuesday between 10am-12noon with good company and a raffle is also held in aid of local charities.

Bible study takes place on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and is led in turn by Mrs Marlyn James and Miss Dorithy Evans.

Sandville: Self-Help Centre’s Annual Thanksgivi­ng Service will be held on Sunday, February 4 at All Saints Church, Porthcawl at 3pm.

Refreshmen­ts will be held later at the Sandville Centre, Ton Kenfig.

Bridgend & District Local History Society: The next Bridgend & District Local History Society meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 7pm at Carnegie House (old Library), Wyndham Street where Roger Morgan will be giving a talk on the Whitechape­l Murders.

Visitors are welcome (a £2 entry fee applies).

Hospital Christian Fellowship Service: The Hospital Christian Fellowship Service for Friday, February 9 will be led by Penny Williams from Penyfai.

The service will take place in the Princess of Wales Hospital Chapel at 3pm.

Thanks: My thanks to Bryn at Ty’r Ardd, Local and Family History Centre and Reference Library for helping out with this week’s column.

The group have made tremendous progress in the few months since it was set up, successful­ly raising the funds to buy the building in just weeks after it was placed on the market. Now also with the help of other volunteers and donations the group are very busy refurbishi­ng and restoring the building.

This a fabulous opportunit­y for toddlers to explore and learn about textures through play while their parents, grandparen­ts or carers have a chat and a cuppa, socialise and make new friends.

Zumba Classes: Thursdays with Michelle. 10am-11am. These sessions are free but a voluntary contributi­on is appreciate­d.

Rebound Fitness: Sessions for adults on Tuesdays at 6pm and Fridays at 9.15am, £1.50 per session.

Walking Rugby: Thursdays, 9.30am for 10am start. All ages and abilities welcome, male and female, £1.50 for 40 mins followed by cuppa and chat.

Memory Lane Café: Are you looking after someone who is very forgetful or has been diagnosed with dementia?

Come along for a cup of tea and meet people in a similar situation at Pyle Life Centre every Friday, from 9.30am-11am.

There will be a host of activities including singing and crafts and looking at old photograph­s of the area.

Cwtch Cynffig: For 50 years Kenfig Hill has provided a meeting place for people with disabiliti­es and their carers and the Cwtch Cynffig project continues its good work every Thursday.

Activities include arts and crafts, chair-based exercise, health and wellbeing sessions.

Morning sessions from 10am-12.30pm and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm-4pm. Sessions costs £5, with refreshmen­ts. Lunch is £2.50.
