Colliers claim vital win in Division 1 relegation battle

pulled one back for the Canteen with the Colliers having the final say claiming the final leg for a much needed 8-4 victory.

With the Colliers winning the Five Bells was hoping for a similar result as they travelled to the other side of town to take on the Coity A .

The Bell men got off to a disastrous start as the Coity boys raced in to a 5-0 lead claiming all the legs in the early exchanges in the threes and pairs. Things did not get much better for the Bells, as the home side went 7-0 up as Andrew Phillips and Ken Richards claimed the first two singles legs

Dai Smith and Phil John eventually got the Bells off the mark as they took the next two legs to make the score 7-2 , but unfortunat­ely that was it for the away side as the Coity claimed the final three legs for a 10-2 victory.

At the other end of the table second placed the Coity B took on third placed the Social.

One a piece after the threes, the Coity had a one leg advantage going into the singles after taking the pairs 2-1.

The Social took the lead for the first time as wins for Shaun Keepin, Nick Winn and Graham Dowle put the home side 5-4 in front with Gavin Buffton pulling one back for the Coity in the fourth leg .Bleddyn Lyons claimed the next to put the home side one away from victory but the Coity boys came back as Dan Brian and Tony Rees claimed the final two legs to salvage a 6-6 draw.

With the teams battling it out below them table toppers the Penybont had a chance to extend their lead at the top as they played host to the Jolliers.

Two nil up after the threes the foot ballers had the better of the pairs to lead 4-1 after the opening exchanges.

Into the singles and the Jolliers pulled two legs back thanks to wins from Tim Pound and Lyndon Phillip. Mark Ludlow and Alwyn Collins who hit a 180 in his leg restored the foot ballers three leg advantage taking the next two to make the score 6-3. Russell Wilks pulled another one back for the away side with Tim Jones and Darren Rees rounding off the night for the Bont as they took the final two legs for a 8-4 success which puts the Foot ballers seventeen points clear at the top.

In division two current leaders the GWR B were not in action this week so the chasing pack had a chance to make up some ground on the leaders.

As in division one it was second playing third as the BUSC B took on the Cabo Kings.

The Kings had the upper hand taking a slender one leg lead in to the singles after the threes and pairs.

Mal McClandlis­h levelled things up for the old guard as he claimed the first singles game with Gary Hodgekinso­n restoring the Cabo,s lead as he took the next.

The service men battled back as wins for Ray Morris, Wayne Perry and Christian Bayliss put the home side 6-4 in front and one away from victory, but they fell short as Paul McAndrew and Curtis Hemming claimed the two remaining legs for the Kings as both sides had to settle for a 6-6 draw.

The White Horse are another side who are still in the mix at the top were in action against the West House.

The Horse came out of the stalls the quickest and raced in to a 4-1 lead after the pairs and threes Tom David hitting a 180 for the home side and Kevin Parry made that 5-1 as he claimed the opening singles leg. The House men woke up and made a come back and level the scores to 5-5 thanks to wins from Darren Porte, Mark Hawkins, Chris Rees and Stu Clemence. All square with two to play the home side held their nerve to see out the game as wins for Dai Williams and Neil Dowling meant the Horse ran out 7-5 victors .

Else where in the league the Cabo recorded their third victory of the season in there derby game against neighbours the Coach Drivers. 4-1 up after the threes and pairs the Cabo went on to take six from seven in the singles for a 10-2 victory. Andy Marvel claiming the Drivers only singles success sending Mike Webb to the six one club.

The final game was a close encounter between the Two Brewers and the BUSC B. One a piece after the threes the Brewers edged the pairs to lead 3-2 in to the singles. Dan Carlisle and Lee Witts made that 5-2 as they claimed the first two singles legs with Steve Jones pulling one back for the Old Guard. A Owens took the next for the home side to make the score 6-3 but the veterans responded as Lyn Cooke and Colin Morse claimed the next two legs to set up a last leg decider which the Brewers took out for a 7-5 victory.
