SCHOOL SHOW BREAKS RECORDS
A SCHOOL’S 40th anniversary show has broken all records after it was performed to more than 2,000 people over a five-show run.
Porthcawl Comprehensive School’s (PCS) production of Phantom of the Opera was hailed as a “phenomenal success” by organisers in what was its 40th year of shows at the Grand Pavilion, which started with ‘Oliver!’ back in 1979.
A statement from the production team explained why they chose Phantom.
It said: “We wanted to choose a show not previously performed at PCS to mark this occasion.
“We also wanted to choose a production that would challenge students and staff alike, and demonstrate the depth of talent we have here at PCS.”
According to the school, interest in Phantom was “incredible” and tickets for all shows sold out “well in advance”. There was even a waiting list.
A school spokeswoman added: “This was in spite of running an unprece-dented fifth show to cele-brate the anniversary.
“The quality of the 24-piece orchestra, largely made up of pupils and ex-pupils, was superb and provided the perfect backdrop to allow the cast to shine.”
She said the school had been inundated with messages, emails, letters and cards congratulating the cast, orchestra and crew “on the professionalism of the production, and the outstanding performances by the pupils – many making comparisons with West End shows”.
She added: “The whole town is buzzing about it, and talking about it everywhere you go.
“Thank you to the cast, staff and parents who give so much to ensure the extraordinary success of the show; long may the tradition of professionalism and excellence continue at PCS – here’s to the next 40 years.”
