Football Open Cup Competitio­n: The draw was made recently for round two of this season’s Nathaniel Car Sales, Bridgend and District Open Cup. One of the stand out ties is the local derby between Carn Rovers v Llangeinor Thirds. This game will take place at Carn Park, Blaengarw, on Saturday, February 3, with a kick off time of 2pm.

Birthday Concert: Mrs Helena Charles will be 100 years old in March. In celebratio­n of this, the Bridgend Male Voice Choir will be holding a concert for her in Tabernacle Chapel on Friday, March 9. The compère for this event will be Huw Edwards from the BBC.

Tickets for the concert cost £5 and can be obtained from members of the choir, Blaengarw and Pontycymer Post Office, or from Eileen Price on 01656 870654.

Bryngarw Country Park: On Saturday, February 3, Bryngarw Park Volunteer Group will be clearing the bluebell woods of bramble and scrub, so why not come along to help them create something beautiful.

The volunteers are meeting at 10am outside Cedars Tea Rooms. The event will last until 2pm, so please bring a packed lunch and make sure to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Tools and training are provided for all volunteer events. All children under 16 must be accompanie­d by an adult.

Pontycymer RFC: With this season’s Six Nations competitio­n upon us, every Wales match will be shown live on the big screen at Pontycymer RFC and all are welcome to come along and enjoy the atmosphere.

On Saturday, February 10, Pontycymer rugby club will travel to Briton Ferry to play a rearranged league game. The match will kick off at 1pm, giving players and supporters
