KEV KICKS OFF

- With Kevin Ellis

ALL the talking over the weekend was did Gareth Anscombe score the try or not? I was at a packed Twickenham Stadium with Allan Bateman and after looking at the big screen we both said it’s a try and you could see the Welsh team walk back to their positions for the kick-off. After a few looks at the screen and a chat to a touch judge, the referee went to the TMO and after a quick decision he disallowed it and all the English fans were stunned at the decision.

It was a poor game in wet and windy conditions. The skill level was poor and our kicking game was poor. I thought scrum-half Gareth Davies had his worst game for Wales. His passing was slow and his box kicks were too long and England’s back three attacked us every time, especially man of the match Mike Brown.

Wales have got to forget the England game now, the result stands so get on with preparation to face an impressive Ireland.

It wasn’t great news for Wales U20s. They got battered by England in Colwyn Bay last Friday night. Some of the tackling was embarrassing. I’m not sure who’s doing the defence coaching but the Welsh players’ tackling technique was clueless. If I was Geraint John I would get Allan Bateman to do a few sessions with the boys and show them to tackle with the shoulder and leg drive rather than the arms and fingers.

I see Rhys Webb is not giving up hope on playing for Wales even though the WRU has introduced this pathetic rule of 60 caps. You could see on Saturday Wales missed Webby big time. Gareth Davies is a running scrum-half but his passing and kicking is poor and it affected the backline and I know Rob Howley won’t be happy. QUESTION: What did you think of the Wales v England game?

It wasn’t the best of games and I’m sure both coaches will be disappointed with the performances but I think England just deserved it. I think we’ve got to get the big boys back e.g. North, Williams, Biggar, Faletau as Ireland in Dublin will be a massive challenge as they are on fire at the moment.
