BRIDGEND A can now guarantee promotion if they card a victory on Saturday away to Swansea City A.

That’s the pleasing prospect for Nicholas Anthony and his merry men after the second-placed Ravens clipped the wings of Pembroke County – and then establishe­d table-topping Whitchurch C had gone down to a surprise 3-0 loss at Cardiff University C.

Bridgend were on their game from the outset with Anthony twice sending Michael Hodges through without any scoreboard success.

But pressure eventually told and the Ravens took the lead, but the Pembrokesh­ire boys battled back strongly and it was 1-1 at the turnaround.

With some home truths spelled out during the break, Bridgend seemed in a more determined mode on the resumption.

Steve Murphy got the goal that sent them back in front and a few minutes later Anthony was on the scoresheet from a short corner.

This settled the feathers of the Ravens, and they signed off with an Andrew Jones jnr goal from another short corner ploy. free hit turned the course of a well-contested match.

Tania Harrison got the goal that sent the Ravens on their merry way to all three points.

During the remainder of the half, Beth Price in the Bridgend goal pulled off some fine saves to protect the tenuous advantage.

Into the second half and strong play down the flanks from Seren Burgum and Eve Mordecai held out hopes of better things to come.

Bridgend even had the ball in the back of the net midway through the half via on-song Sophie Evans, but her effort from a short corner wasn’t allowed to stand.

During the closing stages, fine passing from Louise Jones and Sophie Evans got the Brecon girls back-pedalling.

However, the goal that placed the tin hat on the victory didn’t arrive until dying embers with Louise Jones putting the three points to bed.
