CADOXTON BARRY ..... 4 PORTHCAWL TOWN .... 1

WHERE Porthcawl Town go from here is anyone’s guess during a campaign that’s gone from promising to embarrassing in the space of eight weeks, writes Tony Poole.

Another lacklustre showing from the Seasiders at Cadoxton Barry led to a record showing just one win from their last six league starts.

That’s a far cry from the start of the season when Porthcawl carried all before them, and they were being muted as strong promotion candidates.

But the loss of the nine league points and removal from the South Wales Alliance W J Owen Cup - for playing Adam Jones as an ineligible player on four occasions – looks to have ripped the heart out of the Lock’s Lane club.

They got off to the worst possible start in the Barry suburbs, conceding a penalty after just 15 seconds.

Goalkeeper Andrew Fisher nailed a player in the box, and the ensuing penalty was duly despatched.

But the only crumb of comfort on another desperately disappointing afternoon, unfolded midway through the half.

Jake Lane played a ball over the top that hitman Jorge Crofts latched on to, and he duly advanced his seasonal goal tally on to the 28-mark.

But Cadoxton clawed back the lead just ahead of the half-time whistle, and it was 2-1 during the interval.

Worse followed when Porthcawl conceded another poor goal around the hour mark, and at 3-1 the writing was on the wall.

Another goal hit the back of Fisher’s net in the 70th minute, and basically the Seasiders at this point simply couldn’t wait for the final whistle to sound.

However, they now have a perfect opportunity to place the record straight because this Saturday Cadoxton Barry visit Lock’s Lane in a swift league rematch.
