BAGLAN DRAGONS ..... 0 PENCOED ATHLETIC ... 1

MASON ROACH netted a dramatic late winner, as Pencoed Athletic pulled off a second win of the season at Baglan Dragons, writes Tony Poole.

In fact Evans Bevans ground has become a firm favourite of Roach, as back in the autumn he scored in a, 3-2, WJ Owen Cup success over the Dragons.

Late withdrawals saw Jordan Burrows and colourful Sam Brown join big Ben Treharne on the sidelines.

Big Ben the misfortune strike goalkeeper Ricardo Burton in training, and his chances of playing were gone for a burton.

The return of influential Kyle Owen saw him bench along with Matt Bowen son of football guru Peter.

However, a game that promised a lot produced very little in the way of substance and despite Pencoed forcing eight corners, it was 0-0 at the turnaround.

Injured Jack Hopkins gave way to Owen for the second half, but little changed until both sides got a little leggy late on.

It led to Ricardo Burton making two tailormade saves that doused what little fire the Dragons brought to the table.

The introduction of Bowen brought fresh legs to the party, and a Roach through ball almost led to Griff Williams scoring.

But in the 88th minute, Owen played a telling free kick into the box that Price helped on for Jurgen Roach to side-foot home.

“This wasn’t our best display of the season, that said the pitch was poor and the boys showed maturity and resilience to get the win,” said Pencoed Athletic chief Mark Powell.

“Baglan never make things easy for opponents in the Dragon’s Den, and another big plus was the form of Griff Williams in a wing-back role.’’
