Laleston Gardening Club: Members are reminded that the next lecture at Cliff Cottage takes place at 7.30pm on Monday March 12, when Chris Gwilym will give a talk entitled “A Passion for Gardening: Useful Tips”.

Chris first visited the club in March 2016 and was quite apprehensive as he had never given a talk to a gardening club before! He was a great success and we are delighted that he has agreed to make a return visit.

This talk is a must for anyone who keeps or is considering keeping an allotment. Chris regularly visits his allotment at 6am before going to work and has a keen interest in ensuring the survival of local horticultural shows, such as the one held at Laleston Gardening Club every September.

This year’s annual show is scheduled for Saturday, September 1 and the show secretaries Pauline Sloan and Joyce Pegg are presently finalising the schedule for what will be the club’s 48th Annual Show. The schedule will be made available well in advance of the show to allow members to plan their planting regime and prepare the many arts and crafts entries all of which take a great deal of time and effort.

It is planned to hold a workshop at the gardening club during the summer which will involve demonstrations of how to correctly prepare and present exhibits for the show.

As usual, the club is grateful to Margaret Worgan for researching and organising the ever popular coach trips for the club. She has already made arrangements for one trip on Saturday, June 9 when the club will visit Sudeley Castle and Gardens, near Cheltenham. There will ba a further two trips in July and August, details of which will be circulated.

Interested in gardening? Why not come to our next lecture and meet some of our members. They will be happy to tell you about the benefits of joining this friendly, well established local club.
