MAESTEG .................... 35 SEVEN SISTERS ............ 3

THE OLD Parish took an early lead in this match when outside half Tadgh McGuckin slotted his first penalty of the afternoon.

A drive by veteran prop Stephen Tremlett playing his 218th game for the club set up the next score with McGuckin and Sam Griffiths combining to put prop Tom Evans over for Tadgh McGuckin to convert. The visitors re- duced the arrears when they got a penalty at a wheeling scrum and full back Ian Eltham slotted it over. Another great run by Sam Grifffiths nearly produced another try and some more adventurous play by the home forwards and backs deserved an increase in the points total. That it did not was not however due to the actions of anyone wearing the green jersey of the visitors. A second penalty from Tadgh McGuckin took Maesteg into a ten point lead and a length of the field move saw Callum Powell nearly over but a knee injury in a last gasp tackle saw him leave the field with scrum half Jak Robbins going on the wing and number eight and captain Cameron Davies going to scrum half. The second period also got bogged down early on despite good approach work by Rhys Davies, Gavin Ronan, Dewi Parry and Tyler Dawe. A penalty from Tadgh McGuckin increased the lead before the game suddenly burst into life in a move from 30 metres out. Geraint Roberts and Tadgh McGuckin combined to send Tyler Dawe on the charge and his deft sideways kick put Jak Robbins over for McGuckin to convert. A wave of attacks followed and one from deep saw Ross Boast make the initial break which Tyler Dawe took on upfield and a superb break by Tadgh McGuckin saw Jak Robbins cross in the corner for his second try of the afternoon. A long kick upfield by Seven Sisters forced a scrum 5 metres from the home line but with a Maesteg put in. The ball came out and in to the arms of full back Geraint Roberts who started off at speed, then slowed, and then put on the after burners for one of the greatest individual tries seen on the ground, which Tadgh McGuckin converted to give him fifteen points for the afternoon and a well deserved victory over a game Seven Sisters team.
