Pension battle for our ex-miners
ABOUT 17,000 former mineworkers receiving a miner’s pension were recently sent letters telling them they owed thousands of pounds in tax.
Capita, the administrators for The Miners Pension Scheme, are now sending out letters explaining that this was a mistake. It showed a lack of concern for these pensioners, many in their eighties and older. One man from Ferndale in the Rhondda received a letter telling him he owed £25,000.
We are still conducting The Mineworkers Pension Scheme petition both the online petition and the paper petition to try to get a review in Parliament to overturn the unfair 50/50 arrangement that exists.
Since the coal industry was privatised in 1994 successive governments have taken billions of pounds out of the Mineworkers Pension.
We appeal to every one to support our petition and stop these governments taking our money.
