Choir fills Senedd with joyous sound of singing and friendship
BRIDGEND AM Carwyn Jones and Ogmore AM Huw Irranca-Davies welcomed the Tenovus Bridgend Sing with Us choir to the Senedd.
In front of an audience including school children, assembly members and assembly commission staff, the choir performed a number of songs including Burning Love, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Put a Little Love in your Heart, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Mr Blue Sky, Something inside so strong/It’s my life and Calon Lân.
It was not the first time that the choir had performed at the National Assembly for Wales.
Their voices filled the Senedd in December 2015 when they sang festive carols, the song A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and a special song specifically written for them.
The Tenovus Bridgend Sing with Us choir began life in 2013 and since then has performed in some of the most prestigious venues including the Houses of Parliament.
In 2016, the choir was a proud recipient of the Bridgend Mayor’s Citizenship Award in the group category and since 2013, the choir now has more than 70 members.
There are 15 Sing with Us choirs across Wales and three in England.
Sing with Us is de- signed to support cancer patients and the people who care for them.
Mr Jones said “It was my great pleasure to welcome back to the Senedd the Tenovus Bridgend Sing with Us choir.
“The choir performed beautifully and there was certainly something for everyone. There were some great songs. I am so glad that a number of my colleagues and other visitors to the Senedd had the opportunity to enjoy such a fantastic performance.”
Mr Irranca-Davies said: “What a pleasure it was to host Bridgend Tenovus Cancer Choir at the Assembly with the First Minister and to hear the chorister voices ringing through the Assembly.
