WALES Golf last week announced the draws for this year’s three main competitio­ns – Welsh Team Championsh­ip, Victory Shield and Ladies Team Championsh­ip, writes Tony Poole.

The Welsh Team Championsh­ip which is held by the Pennard club is staging a first preliminar­y round with Royal Porthcawl facing Brynhill at Coed-y-Mwstwr.

Pyle & Kenfig have been paired with St Mellons at the Whitchurch club in Cardiff while Maesteg will challenge Raglan Parc at the Cardiff club.

In the first round (May 14) the winners of the P & K/St Mellons tie face Coed-y-Mwstwr with Southerndo­wn playing either Merthyr Tydfil or Cardiff.

Grove have been paired with the winners of the Wenvoe Castle/St Athan clash and if Royal Porthcawl beat Brynhill, they will then play Mountain Ash.

And the winners of the Raglan Parc/Maesteg tie will then throw down the gauntlet to Tredegar Park.

The preliminar­y round of the Victory Shield, that’s also held by Pennard, is being held on April 9 and ties are as follows:

Pyle & Kenfig v Grove, Maesteg v Aberdare, Southerndo­wn v Brynhill.

In round one Royal Porthcawl play Rhondda and Coed-y-Mwstwr have been paired with Pontypridd.

In the Welsh Ladies Team Championsh­ip – Newport are the defending champions – Pyle & Kenfig play Cottrell Park at Southerndo­wn while Royal Porthcawl and
