COED-Y-MWSTWR

-

RUSSELL Gower held off the challenge of 43 other entrants last week to win a non-qualifying Senior Section Stableford at Coed-y-Mwstwr.

The winning score of the 21-handicapper was a splendid 41 points, and the round contained a magnificent seven pars.

Regimental Mal Brooks marched on to 37 points to secure runner-up honours on countback from Glyn Price.

Three players then sneaked in to the Samuel Bevan snug with 35 points – Michael Davies, Tony Lang and big shot D R Cannon – while Jerry Devine got a divine 34 points together with Jonny McEachen, steady Eddie D Taylor and Brian John.

Some big guns were just outside the top-10 like Dai Maesteg-Thomas on the 31-mark, and top golf retailer D R Stead came in with a steady 29.

And iconic golfer Dai Revlon-James came within a whisker of yet another hole-in-one.

He still talks about that fence, comprising Derek Jones, Jonny Thomas and tigerish Tony Price.

Bridgend C completed the season in fifth place – 20 league matches yielding six wins and two draws – and next winter they are hoping to build on this solid foundation.
