On Thursday, March 8: First, Mike Williams and Gareth Jenkins; second, Rosalie Clode and Stuart Davies; third, Marjorie Halley and Shelia Glass. The winners on handicap were Mike Williams and Gareth Jenkins.

On Friday, March 9: First, Norma and David Newman; second, Carolyn Matthews and Irene Thomas; third, Chris Rawlings and Mari Jones. The winners on handicap were Norma and David Newman.

On Wednesday, March 14: First, Rob Forman and Alan Heath; second, Glyn Williams and Irene Wickham; third, Dave Lea and Graham Norris. The winners on handicap were Rob Forman and Alan Heath.

On Thursday March 15: First, Glyn Williams and John Henson; second, Mike Williams and Paul Lyne; third, Rosalie Clode and Leila O’Hagan. The winners on handicap were Mike Williams and Paul Lyne.

The Max Powell Rose Bowl Pairs competitio­n was played on Friday, March 16: First, Simon and Debbie Richards; second, Tony Disley and Bill Turner; third, Peter Bugden and Linda Jenkins.

Regular club nights take place on Wednesday and Friday evenings at Nolton Church Hall. Play is scheduled to start at 7pm, to enable a prompt start, it helps if players arrive at least 10 minutes early. Jones (Coleg Menai).

Wales lost their opening fixture to Ireland, going down 2-1, and next up on March 29 is English Schools at Cardiff Metropolit­an University.

They wind things up on April 19 against Scottish Schools at Queen of the South FC.

The final act of the season comes five days later with the caps presentati­on ceremony at Blanco’s Hotel & Restaurant in Port Talbot.

The Centenary Shield was introduced in 1973 to mark the centenary of the Scottish FA.

Though Wales shared the inaugural staging with England, since then they’ve only won the event twice – 1975 and 1981.
