PYLE & KENFIG

-

FORMER Porthcawl Town football star Simon Willis achieved a goal in winning the Country Members Cup last Saturday at Pyle & Kenfig.

His winning card of 726-66 contained a two on the 12th green and further birdie on 10; 13 pars and three bogeys.

Off an away handicap John Fraser shot 84-18-66 while third-placed Ioan L Consitt got a Tutu (twos on holes 12 and 15), six further birdies and four pars on a card displaying 69-2-67.

Further nett 67’s came from Neil Fox 75-8-67, Kevin Sommerville 71-467 (two on 12th hole) and Alex Williams 79-12-67.

And five players then carded nett 68’s – John Moorcraft 80-12-68, Matthew Gubb 75-7-68, Nick Evans 80-12-68, Dave Jones (eagle on 11) and Huw Jarrett 86-18-68.

In the Galliver Cup, victory went to Elliot Watkins on 40 Stableford points from Jacob Bailey 36, Harrison Evans 33 (away), Dafydd Feeley 33, Ronan Oliver 32, Ethan Langley 31 (away) and Sean David 30.

Meanwhile, Susanne Jones last week ran up 37 Stableford points to win a Golf Foundation Brooch event.

Five pars did the trick, but she only had a point in hand over Annette Rhys who also matched par on five occasions.

Third-placed Joan Flaherty entered the clubhouse with 35 points with Ceri Mohajer on 33 points and Cheryl Western 32 (seven pars).

However, the 31-point card of sixth-placed Claire Morris saw her hit the highs and lows.

The highlights were a superb eagle on the parfive 16th hole off the ladies tee and a two on the 12th green – and the downside blobs on the fourth and unlucky for her 13th hole.
