GOYTRE UNITED .......... 2 PENYBONT .................... 3

PENYBONT player-manager Rhys Griffiths was in the started along with some other big guns during this end of season victory over Goytre United at Glenhafod Park, writes Tony Poole.

Kane Owen back from suspension also played along with Nathan Renfree and Ioan Emanuel.

Goyt scored first through Jack Giles; Liam Williams restored parity in the 39th minute while just ahead of the half-time whistle Williams sent Bont in with a 2-1 advantage.

The Bridgend super club were then awarded a 52nd-minute penalty that Williams converted for a quickfire hat-trick.

It remained 3-1 until final knockings – Giles getting a second goal – but by then the points were on their way back to the Kymco Stadium.

But last week Penybont had to make a tough decision and pulled their side out of the Ivy Court Cottages Welsh Youth League.

They had previously failed to pitch against both Afan Lido and Taffs Well and when they couldn’t send a team to Monmouth Town last week it was a case of enough is enough.

Ironically, Garw pulled out of a Celtic Tyres Bridgend League Division One match last week, and Bont got the points.

Meanwhile, in a midweek Wales Veterans League Over-50s fixture, Penybont beat Llantrisant, 3-1, at the Kymco Stadium.

Former sports reporter Steve Dalton was once again a goal-scoring hero for the Bampy Bonts, and his superb header separated the sides during the interlude.

Vincent Lewis doubled the lead and also went on to make it 3-0 before Llantrisant had the final word through Steve Evans.

The Over-45’s won 4-0 at Caerau Ely last Sunday in the Welsh Veterans League – Andrew Davies got two first-half goals while Vincent Lewis and a sheepish Dolly also netted.

But Penybont Ladies lost 3-0 against Aberystwyth Town in the Alun Evans Cup final at the Kymco Stadium.
