KEV KICKS OFF

- With Kevin Ellis

I HAVE got to congratulate Porthcawl RFC on a fantastic win to become the Bowl champions of 2018. They beat Pembroke with the last kick of the game. It was one of the best games to watch on the day with both teams attacking from deep and running hard with some great scrambling defence and to be honest it could of gone either way; but well done Porthcawl.

I see Pro14 has signed a deal with the pay channel Premier Sports for three years from next season but apparently there will be one game over the weekend on a free-to-air channel. I know I won’t pay £10/£15 per month to watch the Pro14. I hardly watched it when it was free! I see the WRU welcomed it as a fresh offer for the fans, which is rubbish. They are happy because they get an extra few million pounds but the fans have got pay to watch an average league!

I went up to Judgement Day last Saturday and it was great 60,000 fans attended. I was lucky I missed the first game, Scarlets v Dragons, which friends said was a shocking game to watch and I saw Scarlets scrum half Gareth Davies moaning about the Dragons dragging the Scarlets down to their level. The Ospreys v Blues game was a cracker with both teams looking to attack and it came down to a Dan Biggar drop goal to win the game 26-23.

It’s great news that the Hilary Floyd Ellis netball tournament 2018 will be on Saturday, July 28 at Bridgend tennis club. Kev Kings lost in the semi-finals last year so hopefully this year we can get to the final. We will start training soon so get your skirts and bibs out boys!

Good luck to Cardiff City – they are one win away from the Premier League. Swansea City are under big pressure too to avoid relegation. They are just above the drop zone and are desperate for a win. They’ve got to perform down in Bournemouth this Saturday. Good luck Swans. QUESTION: Do you think Cardiff City will get automatic promotion? YES, I do. I think the Bluebirds will beat Reading 3-1 in front of a packed crowd at Cardiff City Stadium. Good luck boys!!
