Thursday evening, but unfortunately it was not the swan song that the Garw Valley side had wanted. The Cobra’s lacked their usual venom in the opening quarter and at half time it was the visitors who had their nose in front with a score of 2-0. The home side started the second half the stronger, but Pencoed took the spoils late on to reach the final. Carn Rovers are now looking forward to next season at their new ground.

Owen Money Comes To Blaengarw: On Friday, June 22, Owen Money’s Jukebox Heroes II Tour, featuring The Travelling Wrinklies, will be playing live at the Blaengarw Workmen’s Hall, from 7.30pm-10pm. For more information and ticket prices, please phone the box office on (01656) 870873.

Carn Rovers: Thursday, May 10 could go down as the end of an era as there is a possibility that Carn Rovers AFC have now said farewell to their iconic, picture postcard ground, Carn Park when they played Pencoed Reserves in the semi final of the Bridgend League Cup.

The potential move is due to the fact Carn Rovers, nicknamed The Cobra’s, could find themselves shifting along the Garw Valley mountain to The Recreation Ground, which has been home to Blaengarw Rugby Club for many years. It has been mentioned that in the off season, the rugby posts could possibly be taken down to be replaced by goal posts at The Rec, ready for next season in the division 1 of the Celtic Tyres Bridgend and District. The plan is that Carn Park football field will still be used for Sunday football fixtures throughout the winter months.

All at Carn Rovers AFC would like to thank Carl J. Jones plumbing and The Wexa Club, Blaengarw for their continued support.

Blaengarw C.C.: Blaengarw Cricket Club have made a fantastic start to their 2018 season. The club hold outdoor net practise every Thursday, between 6pm-8pm, at Darren Park, Blaengarw. All are welcome to attend.

Laleston Gardening Club: The club held their 6th annual plant sale and coffee morning on Saturday, May 5 and the event proved to be a great success. The committee are extremely grateful again this year to the enthusiastic Bridgend and District Scouts Explorer Unit and their leaders, who in a change from previous years arrived on Thursday evening to erect the marquee and set up tables etc. This gave the committee and helpers an extra day to transport the huge quantity of plants from various locations and display them on tables in readiness for the sale.

The morning was bathed in beautiful sunshine and a queue started to develop half an hour before the opening time. In excess of 50 people were queuing when the marque was opened for business at 10am.

Helpers were available to dispense advice and direct customers to the plants they required. Two members were positioned at the exit to take the cash and hand out advice leaflets on plant care.

Outside of the exit other helpers with wheelbarrows were on hand to help transport purchases to the customers cars. Such was the traffic congestion outside of the club that the Laleston Inn was needed as an overspill car park, with the kind permission of the owner Arthur.

It was generally agreed that the quality of the plants was excellent and the steady stream of customers lasted for most of the morning.

Some were strangers to the club and were responding to advance publicity and word of mouth recommendation. A number of new members were recruited on the day.

Inside Cliff Cottage, members of the clubs ladies section hosted a coffee morning, and visitors were able to stop awhile for a coffee and sample the delightful selection of cakes and pastries that were on offer.

The food and drink hampers made up by the ladies were of the usual exceptional quality and this was reflected by the number of raffle tickets sold.

The two successful events were a culmination of a lot of time, effort and generosity by club members and the community and will help the clubs committee to continue to maintain and improve the clubs beautiful and historic grade II listed building for the community of Laleston.

Thanks to all who came along, we hope you will enjoy your plants!
