PORT TALBOT & DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE:

-

KENFIG Hill last week failed to follow up an opening Division One victory over Mount Pleasant with another success, writes Tony Poole.

The top-flight newcomers went down to a whitewash defeat, 89-48, at home to Briton Ferry Steel.

But the third week in the league programme was dominated by clubs failing to field teams – and this has to be viewed as a worrying trend.

Maesteg Celtic were in Division Two action against Aberavon in Garth Park, and went under 94-51.

In Division Three, Maesteg experienced mixed fortunes, defeating visiting Tyn-y-Twr, 66-52, and losing at home to Croeserw by five shots, 67-62.

Star of the show for Maesteg in the win over Tyn-y-Twr was skip Glan Evans, who triumphed 22-11, while skip Dave Burgess via a 23-9 rink success swayed issue for Croeserw in the Old Parish.

Bridgend pulled off a splendid 81-63 victory over BP Tankers in Llandarcy Park with skip Leslie Millar grinding out a match-tilting 33-9 win for the Caepant Field club.

But Griffin Park returned home to Porthcawl pointless after losing 82-54 at Croeserw.

However, the Aberkenfig story in Division Four keeps on getting better, and they have now made it three straight wins.

This time around they won the day by just three shots, 60-57, at Bryncoch with skip John Prime once more in prime form on the back of a 16-12 rink success.

Meanwhile, Bridgend Municipal stormed to a 77-50 victory at Cwmavon with skip R Sherrard handing in a 26-7 winning card.

And in Division Five, Pencoed swept to an emphatic 82-55 victory over the Brynhyfryd club in Cimla.

Top rink honours went to Pencoed skip Howard Porter, who carried them to victory on the back of a 34-9 win.

But once again there was no joy for Prince of Wales Court Eagles, who lost 77-67 against BP Llandarcy Oilers at Penylan Avenue.
