NATHANIEL CARS WELSH LEAGUE: DIVISION TWO:

AFC LLWYDCOED ........0 LLANTWIT MAJOR ......6

-

THIS comprehensive win over AFC Llwydcoed led Llantwit Major into the Promised Land that’s the top flight of the Welsh League, writes Tony Poole.

In an amazing rags to riches story, the Windmillers have gone from being the South Wales Amateur League champions of 2012 to the summit of the Welsh League in just six years.

But they aimed to go up as champions and with this in mind, a victory last night (Tuesday) over STM Sports would have made them champions.

Pontypridd Town are also promoted and in a change of heart from the FAW, they will operate next season out of the Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff. But the third promotion place remains up for grabs between STM Sports and Ammanford – and STM needed all three points last night to place pressure on the Rice Roaders.

The most pleasing aspect of Llantwit going up is that they will be the only promoted club not relying on a ground-share to operate in Division One for season 2018/19 only.

It took Llantwit half an hour to make the breakthrough. Connor Goldsworthy’s love of the club shone through as he got on the ball and found Sam Snaith to make it 17 goals this term.

It remained that way until the hour when the potent head of Shaun Barney-Williams duly doubled the lead.

Anthony Rawlings ended a goal drought to make it 3-0 while in the 75th minute, Ben Cripps got in on the goal-scoring act.

A Rawlings header for 5-0 piled on the misery for Llwydcoed while another strike from young Cripps rounded off a fine shift.

Earlier, during a midweek home clash with Pontardawe Town, the Windmillers relied on a late goal from BarneyWilliams to bring home the bacon in a slender 1-0 success.
