DIVISION 1:

TONDU .................... 251-4 USK .......................... 232-9

-

LOOKING to bounce back from their defeat to Abergavenny, Tondu welcomed Usk, who had similarly lost their previous fixture against Chepstow.

The away side won the toss and elected to field but an excellent batting display from Tondu would give the home side the advantage.

Batsman, Ross Evans, managed an impressive 83 runs, but the standout performance of the day belonged to captain, Jamie Williamson, who eased past his century, settling on a tally of 112.

As the overs drew to a close, the home side would finish on 251, losing just four wickets in the process. Usk, faced with somewhat of an uphill task, knew a solid start was required.

And that is exactly what they got, as batsmen George Lewis and Neil Perrett acquired 90 runs between them, the former just managing to reach his half century.

However, their progress was halted thanks to Tondu bowler Richard Ready, certainly prepared for this game, as he took three wickets with the same number of maidens and conceded just 18 runs in his 10 over spell. Even a 55 from Usk’s Jack Norman wasn’t enough for the away side as the inevitable became realty when the match reached its final stages.

Usk could only muster a run score of 232 and Tondu would win by 19 runs. Tondu face a tough test next week as they make the lengthy journey to Chepstow, who have won their previous three fixtures.
