SINCE the merger in the summer with Coedely Cricket Club, high flying Blaengarw Cricket Club are enjoying the fruits of their labour, the club will now go under the name of Blaengarw and Coedely Cricket Club, and play their home game’s at Darren Park.

It was Blaengarw & Coedely who had made a fantastic start to their 2018 season, going into this Division 6 clash at The Recreation Ground with a 100% unbeaten tag to protect, and for the third week running the Garw Valley outfit delivered in bucket loads.

Table topping Blaengarw and Coedely handed a debut to Bleddyn Webster.

It was the home side that had first knockings, making a steady start finding themselves 44 without loss off the first 10 overs, Garin Lougher finally got the break through Blaengarw and Coedely needed, and after 20 overs the score board read 841, then after the next 10 overs it was 143-4, and finally Tredegar finished on 175-8 off their allotted 40 overs.

The visitors bowling figures were Brandon Huntley 8-2-33-0, Nik Spooner 8-0-37-0, Geraint Gillet 5-0-28-0, Garin Lougher 8-1-42-2, Greg Sinott 8-226-2 and former Pencoed paceman Graham Davies 3-0-7-3.

The Blaengarw bowling attack was backed up by some outstandin­g work in the field, with Owen Thomas and Bleddyn Webster taking top-draw catches.Top scorers for the home side were D.Lloyd (39), T.Morris (33) and H.Jenkins (29).

Visiting openers Rees Jones and Greg Sinott started well, taking the sine off the new cherry and after 6 overs, Blaengarw and Coedely were 22 without loss.

This was just the building block they needed and in the baking sun, they began to give the Tredegar fielders the run around, dispatchin­g the ball to every part of the Recreation Ground.

Off 26 overs the pair were steaming along with a 128 run unbeaten opening partnershi­p, star all-rounder Sinott was finaly trapped lbw for an eye catching (74), and his opening partner Jones who had played the anchor roll in the innings, carried his bat for a fine 64 not out.

Hard hitting batsman Chris Hawkins came in at number three and smashed a quick fire 27 not out, and after 34.4 the Darren Park based side finally reached the target set for them, finishing on 176-1, taking them to pole position in the league.

J Richards was the pick of the home bowling attack 8-1-17-1.

This Saturday Blaengarw and Coedely welcome Chepstow to Darren Park, for the first home game of the 2018 season, stumps 1pm.
