Table-topping Blaengarw & Coedely welcomed Chepstow Cricket Club to Darren Park, for this division six encounter, the Garw Valley outfit are enjoying the best start to a season for many years, sitting top of the tree of the league table.

After the heavy over night rain the game was reduced to 35 overs a side, it was home stand in skipper Rees Jones who won the toss, and put the visitors in.

Chepstow opening bat Robert Jones made hay when the sun shone, carring his bat through the visitors innings with a fine 137 not out, he was supported by Ben Haskins (72) and John Trackle (18). The Blaengarw bowling figures read Brandon Huntley 7-0-55-0, Geraint Gillet 7-1-32-1, Greg Sinott 7-1-27-0, Craig Butler 1-0-15-0, Nik Spooner 7-0-42-1, ex-Pencoed paceman Graham Davies 4-0-50-0 and Nathan Watts 2-0-32-0.And when the two side’s stopped for a breather, Chepstow had posted 241-3.

Again for the second week running, Blaengarw opening duo Rees Jones and Greg Sinott put on a 40 plus opening partnershi­p, Sinott again was the star turn, hitting an eye catching 72, others to cash in on the large run chase was hard hitting Craig Butler (48), Brandon Huntley (28) and William Struthers (23), the game went right down to the final ball, with another nail bitting finish, with a draw being a fair result.

On Saturday, Blaengarw & Coedely travel to Llandaff Playing Fields, where they take on Lisvaine, stumps 1pm.
