Wartime spirit returns to town for re-enactment

-

BRIDGEND town centre will be transported back to the war years when a popular free family event returns this month.

The Wartime Bridgend Re-Enactment event will be staged in the town on Saturday, June 16.

As usual there is lots for the whole family to see and do. This year will feature a full size replica of the WWI Bristol Scout Bi-Plane and WWI Airship Crew.

There will be live entertainment throughout the day featuring Ricky Hunter, Amanda Beaumont, acapella girl group Heavenly and a George Formby lookalike. For the younger members of the family there are fairground attractions, mini vintage makeovers, wartime crafts and period games.

Once again Sir Winston Churchill and Field Marshal Montgomery will be present in the town giving speeches and support to local residents.

Vintage vehicles of the time will be on display – together with a multitude of realistic demonstrations from experts showing how life was lived in that era.

These demonstrations include WWII Codes and Code Breaking, 1940s Home Guard, Welsh WWII Infantry and WWI Airship Crew.

Bridgend allotmenteers will show how the “Dig for Victory” Campaign was put into action, while various local military organisations will add their expertise to the event and vintage vehicle enthusiasts will show off their prized modes of transport.

Wartime walks will be conducted by local historian John Williams. There will also be a full exhibition centre available at Carnegie House in Wyndham Street with exhibits from local historian Natalie Murphy, Past Lives Museum owner, curator, and archivist Cheryl Hart and collector and wartime enthusiast Michael Ridley.

Wartime Bridgend - WWI & WWII ReEnactment Day will be held in Bridgend Town Centre (Dunraven Place & Wyndham Street) on Saturday, June 16 from 10am-5pm.
