Porthcawl Town Mayor 2018-2019: Bridgend County Borough Council’s opposition leader Councillor Norah Clarke was installed as the Mayor of Porthcawl for the forthcomin­g year.

Cllr Clarke who sits as a member of the Independen­t Alliance Group representi­ng the Nottage Ward here in Porthcawl, took over at the recent annual meeting of Porthcawl Town Council from fellow independen­t Cllr Lorrie Desmond-Williams.

This is the second time for Councillor Norah Clarke to hold the top office. having been Mayor two decades ago-and in her inaugural speech she spoke of her affection for Porthcawl and its people. Her husband Cllr Mike Clarke, a Rest Bay member will be consort for her period of office.

The new Deputy Mayor will be Newton member Cllr Graham Walter.

Summer Serenade: Don’t forget that the PAODS Broadway Chorus are appearing in concert at ALL Saint’s Church in Summer Serenade on Friday, June 15 at 7.30pm in support of the Velindre Cancer Centre.

The concert will feature a wide variety of music: popular songs, extracts from musical shows, and light classical pieces and the chorus welcome guests Jenny Weir, who will be performing solo items from the saxophone and clarinet repertoire, and James Evans-Jones, singing much loved songs from well known shows.

Tickets are now available from Ceri Millar, Well Street, Porthcawl, chorus members or at the door. Tickets cost £8 for adults and £5 for children.

As well as enjoying beautiful music and supporting Velindre Cancer Centre, you will be able to enjoy scones with strawberri­es and cream by joining the Broadway Chorus for its Summer Serenade on Friday, June 15. Porthcawl Lions Sunday
