DAFEN WELFARE .. 317-2 MAESTEG CELTIC .... 135

A SUBLIME Matthew Evans and Nicky Davies partnership helped ease Dafen Welfare to victory over Maesteg Celtic who were looking to back up their win last week with another on the road.

Evans carried the bat for his side, making 116 with twelve 4s and two 6s as Davies managed 117 with a phenomenal eighteen 4s and a solitary 6 before being caught by Maesteg Celtic’s Morgan Harris. Dafen Welfare’s David Dunfee followed in his fellow batsmen’s footsteps as he surpassed his half-century on his way to a 53, including two 4s and a wonderful five 6s. The home side ended their batting innings looking very comfortable on 317-2. In a stark contrast, Maesteg Celtic struggled during their batting innings, despite captain Nick Poole’s best efforts with his 62 and an impressive ten 4s. At 122-6, defeat for Maesteg Celtic looked an almost certainty and they would score just 13 more runs as they saw their final four wickets fall. It wasn’t to be the Celtic’s day as they saw their chances of back-to-back wins obliterated. Next week the Celtics face a tricky trip to Victoria Road where they face a Gowerton side in what will surely be a tight encounter. Maesteg Celtic end the week in a midtable 6th place in the Division One league table.
