THE Maesteg Festival opened on the weekend with a feast of music and dance.

Friday, June 1, saw Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro taking to the stage at Maesteg Town Hall.

The group were met with a rousing reception from the packed crowd, while during the interval renowned Welsh food artist Nathan Wyburn – another Britain’s Got Talent star – presented portraits to each member of the group that he had created from “coffee”.

Ahead of the concert the Mayor of Maesteg Mrs L Beadle gave a short introduction to the festival and thanked those involved in setting up another month of high quality events.

Saturday, June 2, saw the town hall filled to capacity by members of the three Maesteg Dance Groups UDC, Contagious and Funk Force who provided two hours of dance.

The event saw more than 250 children taking part. With children from as young as three years old performing on stage each group produced vibrant dance performances to impress the audience.

The Maesteg Festival runs until the end of this month with a whole host of entertainment on offer including music, theatre, children’s entertainment, a classic car show, a heritage walk and the Keeper of the Colliery 5k and 10k Run.
