A BRIDGEND man who was unable to ride a rollercoaster due to his weight is “over the moon” after losing almost four stone in just eight weeks.

Leon Welsby, 31, shed the weight after taking part in S4C show FFIT Cymru.

During the series’ finale, it was revealed that the Urdd assistant development officer has undergone one of the biggest transformations on the show with his weight dropping from 21st 8lbs to 17st and 10.5lbs

The FFIT Cymru leader said: “When I started this show, my original target was to lose 1.5st so this has exceeded all my expectations.

“This has been completely life changing and I never expected these fantastic results.

“Not only has my fitness improved massively I’ve also seen a really positive change in my mood and mentality too, I’m smiling more now and I couldn’t be happier.”

Research by Bangor University, who carried out tests at the start and end of the show, found that Leon also lost 48% impressive 48% of his body fat.

Viewers of the show over the last two months watched Leon during his journey, along with fellow participants Nic Davies, Catherine Lewis, Judith Owens, and Mathew Thomas.

Leon said: “Taking part in this series has given me the knowledge I needed to be able to stay fit and healthy beyond the series, and to make better choices when it comes to my diet.

“Ultimately that was my goal going into the show and I’m feeling really positive about making healthier choices going forwards. This has given me an entirely new lease of life and I can’t wait to get back on that rollercoaster and enjoy the ride.”
