Marie Curie: Afternoon tea in add of Maire Curie Cancer Care in Ynysawdre Community Centre on Saturday, June 16, 12noon- 4pm. All welcome - there will be lots of cakes and tea.

Family History: This month’s meeting of the Bridgend Branch of the Glamorgan Family History Society will be held on Monday, June 18, at the Local and Family History Centre Ty’r Ardd ,Sunnyside ,Bridgend CF31 4AR.

The Speaker will Mr John Dunkley-Williams. Doors 7pm. Please note change of venue. Everyone Welcome.

Wesley Celebratio­n: Anniversar­y celebratio­ns are being held at the Wesley Church Centre Tondu. The opening service for the church was held on June 8, 1868. To celebrate the 150th anniversar­y the following special events have been organised.

Friday, June 15 - Fish & Chip Supper and Beetle Drive (Entry £4.00 Small/£5.50 Large Portion Pre-Booking required), 7pm.

Saturday, June 16 - Teddy Bears Picnic and Disco, 2pm & 6.30pm.

Sunday, June 17 - All Age Worship, 10.30am.

Hon FNCM (Smyrna). The choir of Salem Baptist Chapel, Ton-yrefail

There will be a selection of popular and well-known English and Welsh hymns. This is one of the few Singing Festivals still being held in the Bridgend area so please come along and support this tradition of congregati­onal hymn singing.

The service will be followed by refreshmen­ts in the vestry to which all are welcome.

Smyrna Pen-Y-Fai: The Sunday school would like to invite the children of the surroundin­g area who are aged 4 and over to join them on Sunday morning between 10.30am-12noon for stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work.

The Sunday service is held at 6pm and is led by Pastor Trevor Jones. All are very welcome to the service and to join us for refreshmen­ts in the vestry afterwards.

Coffee morning is held on Tuesday between 10am and 12noon with good company and a raffle is also held in aid of local charities.

Bible study takes place on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and is led in turn by Mrs Marlyn James and Miss Dorithy Evans.

Spiritual Healing: Spiritual healing is offered each Tuesday from 6pm-7.30pm at the Ynysawdre Community Centre (at the junction of Bryn Road and Heol-yrYsgol).

There is no charge for the service but a small donation to help defray expenses is appreciate­d.

Wartime Bridgend: Saturday, June 16 in Bridgend Town Centre, transport the whole family back to WWI and WWII with an array of interactiv­e stalls, demonstrat­ions, re-enactments and exhbiition­s for all generation­s.

Attraction­s include: A full size replica BiPlane, WWII codes and code breaking, 1940s Home Guard, Winston Churchill and Monty lookalikes, live entertainm­ent throughout the day, Welsh WWII inventory.

You can also join me for historical tours of Bridgend, leaving from outside Carnegie House at 11.30am and 1.30pm, and learn about the varied history of the town from the days of Norman settlement, through the Victorian period and up to the war years.

The walks will last around an hour and end with an optional tour of the oldest house in Bridgend – St John’s Hospice on Newcastle Hill.

Love 2 Walk: The 2018 Walking Festival starts on Saturday, June 16 with a choice of 3 walks - Glamorgan Bird Club at Kenfig Nature Reserve, Keep Wales Tidy Beach Clean and Wartime Bridgend.

National Open Gardens Scheme: Cefn Cribwr Gardening Club will be hosting this event on Sunday, June 17 from 11am to 5pm.

Entry tickets are available on the day from Cefn Cribwr Community Centre, The Green Hall, Cefn Road CF32 0AW.

Numerous gardens throughout the village will be available to visit, some offering refreshmen­ts.

There will also be tea, coffee and cakes, plant sales and a raffle in the Hall.

Pop-Up Tea Room: Calling all you Chocolate Lovers - Please note:The pop up tea room Blandy Hall, Laleston will NOT be open on Friday, June 15 (one week only) BUT there will be a display of Belgian Chocolate Creations and other Chocolate yummies at the Laleston Fete on Saturday, June 16.

Laleston Village Fete: Come along and have great day in the grounds of the Blandy Hall, Laleston starting at 12noon on Saturday, June 16. Enjoy the singing of Trelales and Llangewydd Primary School Choirs, followed by the fun dog show.

There will be a BBQ, tombola, craft stalls, books for sale as well as cakes, jewellery and much more, not to mention an opportunit­y to try your hand at Maypole dancing. Games and a Bouncy Castle will keep the children happy. Table top space (bring your own tables) is available at £10 per table.
