KENFIG ARE KINGS OF THE HILL AFTER WIN OVER BRYN
PORT TALBOT AND DISTRICT BOWLS
KENFIG Hill last week pulled off their most significant top-flight win, triumphing 73-51 at reigning champions Bryn Welfare, writes Tony Poole.
The Division One newcomers, who hold third place, won a splitrink contest on the back of skip Leighton Greenslade handing in a 29-10 winning card.
In Division Two, Caerau Welfare lost a Riverboat derby contest, 6957 to Maesteg Celtic only to gain a 14-shot success, 74-60, at Gwynfi.
Celtic skip Andy Donaldson swayed issue at the Riverboat, winning 27-11, while young Caerau skip Dylan Hookings triumphed 28-9 in the Gwynfi victory.
Caerau Athletic toppled Division Three leaders Maesteg at the Riverboat, winning the day 74-55 with skip Rhys Roberts taking top rink honours on the strength of a 24-11 victory.
And there was a whitewash win for Griffin Park against Tata Steel in Margam with the Porthcawl side triumphing 80-43 through a 30-10 win from skip Gordon Williams.
But all good things came to an end at the sixth time of asking for Division Four leaders Aberkenfig, who lost 60-50 at home to Cymmer.
Another upset came in Newbridge Fields with Cefn Cribwr storming to 65-56 victory over high-flying Bridgend Municipal.
Star of the show for the Riders was skip G Overton, who powered home 20-9.
Meanwhile, the last-16 stage of the Emrys Beer Triples has produced the following pairings: Taibach v Port Talbot Ynys, TRW Cam Gears v Croeserw, Pencoed v Cwmavon, Mount Pleasant v Aberkenfig, Cymmer v Maesteg Celtic, Brynhyfryd v Kenfig Hill, Aberavon Liberal Club Do’s v Melyn Borough, Aberavon v Prince of Wales Court Hawks.
