Blaengarw C.C. Match Report: Blaengarw & Coedely C.C. 244-1. Whitchurch Heath C.C. 170 all out

On Saturday, June 9, Blaengarw and Coedely Cricket Club continued to mine that rich vein of form when they welcomed Whitchurch Heath to Darren Park for a division six encounter.

It was the home side that took advantage of a perfect looking batting track, the midas touch for them proving to be the golden bat of Chris Hawkins who delivered a 24 carat performance at 116 not out. Hawkins was supported by Brandon Huntley at 51 not out and Rees Jones on 50, who unfortunately then retired hurt. By the end of their 40 overs, Lloyd Chambers’ men had posted a huge 244.

Again, and not for the first time this season, the Blaengarw and Coedely bowling attack was giving nothing away, and after 20 overs the visitors found themselves stuttering on 92-4. The pick of the home side was spin king Rees Jones 2-9, Greg Sinnot 2-20, skipper Lloyd Chambers 2-41, Brandon Huntley 1-27 and Lloyd Hosey 1-51. Top scorer for Whitchurch Heath was Adam Jones on 31. A special mention must go to former Maesteg rugby number 8, Matthew Hocking, who put in an eye catching debut in the the field for the Darren Park team.
