Interested in joining the U3A?
BRIDGEND has a very successful U3A which has a good number of groups of different interests.
The U3A is a national organisation which has groups all over the UK. In the name “University of the Third Age”, the word “University” is not in any way formal or involved in learning to pass exams and/or gain qualifications.
The U3A is for retired and semi-retired people who come together to be involved in social, educational and creative subjects in a friendly and informal environment. Being involved in local groups is excellent for members who want to work together, enjoying company and being involved in subjects that are mentally social and stimulating - the groups being organised and programmed by the members themselves.
The Bridgend U3A has a good number of groups involved in: Discussions and Conversations, Exploring Music, History, Reading, Enjoying Words, Table-top Games, Crafts, Crosswords, Gardening, Walking, Table-Tennis, Play Reading, Poetry and a newly formed T Technology Group.
Meetings are held in C Coity at Gilead Chapel Hall, Coity Community Centre and the Brackla Community Hall.
Once a month a meeting is held for all Bridgend U3A members to attend together - speakers and subjects of interest are arranged.
One particularly good aspect of the U3A is the contact with others by being part of programme groups and creating development of the interests and mind processing of retired or semi-retired or otherwise u unoccupied members. This allows and encourages them to enjoy being in the company of groups of people involved in items of interest.
Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Bridgend U3A can go into the website https:// u3asites.org.uk/bridgend. Here you will see the list of groups, events, contacts and other interesting and useful information. Brian Sewell, Member of the Bridgend U3A
