Top-scorer Crofts commits

- TONY POOLE sport@walesonline.co.uk

PORTHCAWL Town hitman Jorge Crofts has scotched rumours linking him with a move to a host of Nathaniel Cars Welsh Football League clubs.

He put pen to paper at Lock’s Lane last week, and was joined by two other high-profile signings.

Goalkeeper Aaron Jones, who has taken in spells with Penybont, Cornelly United, Cefn Cribwr and Afan Lido, has linked with his father Barrie, who is a member of the management team at the Highadmit South Wales Alliance Division One club.

Barrie Jones is now more proactive at the club with Raymond Walker and Kevin Downes taking on less demanding roles.

And, in a surprise move, Joey Jones has left Cornelly United and switched to the buoyant Seasiders.

Jones, who is rated one of the most potent wide men on the Division One scene, was also club secretary with the Wasps.

But Crofts committing to Porthcawl for another season was arguably the biggest shot in the arm.

Last winter, Crofts scored 37 times to break the club post-war goalscoring record that Philip Lyons had held on the 35mark since the 1996/97 campaign.

Joey Jones playing alongside the likes of Morgan Thomas, Jordan Marks and Andrew Fisher up top should provide Crofts with plenty of ammunition in front of goal.

That adds up to an exciting attacking force next winter, and basically the Seasiders can’t wait to light the blue touch paper.

Numbers in training last week were high, and it coincided with some other household names re-signing.

Evergreen campaigner Thomas Warren, Adam Jones, Sam Comley, Andrew Fisher and Thomas Davis head the list of those who are once more on board at Lock’s Lane.

Porthcawl Town train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Lock’s Lane (6pm), and new recruits are welcome to attend.
