Matt Williams (28) and Greg Webber (18) then led Brecon to a simple victory on 46-0 to boost their survival hopes.

The rest of the top division was called off due to heavy rain and that meant Brecon climbed out of the bottom two and into mid-table. Croesyceil­iog took their place in the drop zone but are only one point behind Usk and four further back from Pontypridd.

Miskin Manor still lead the way at the top on 281 points, 26 ahead of Newbridge who boast a game in hand. The top two will meet on Saturday, August 25, for a crucial game in the title race.

Division Two was also hugely affected by the rain although leaders Monmouth managed to extend their lead to 20 points as they completed their allocation of 50 overs against Cardiff Central. The match was then abandoned five overs into Cardiff Central’s batting.

Matthew Jones had struck 59 for Monmouth as they reached 204-9.

The rest of the division was washed out although Lisvane put 56 on the scoreboard without loss in 11 overs before their game at Ponthir was abandoned.

Monkswood missed the chance to take control of Division Three as they lost to Barry Wanderers by four wickets. Title-chasing Monkswood were inserted and managed to hit 181-8 with Adam Malson bagging a halfcentur­y (51).

Wanderers opener Brychan Tudor also notched a half-century (50) before Aled Hughes struck 84 to get them over the line.
