Ravens hit by Rams’ raid

-

BRIDGEND Ravens fell to a disappointing defeat in their second pre-season fixture at home to Redingensians Rams.

Early sustained pressure following an early Rams penalty saw Kidd score the opening try for the visitors at the Morganstone Brewery Field.

After 20 minutes, loose head prop Kidd added a second try from a set piece to give the Reading-based side a healthy lead.

With half an hour gone, Bridgend decided to join the party as winger Will Holley scored his second try of pre-season from an overlap following a strong maul from the forward pack.

Any Bridgend momentum was soon halted though, as the visitors replied almost immediately as Ellis Jones raced over the line.

At the end of the half, Ravens winger Aaron Grabham misjudged his tackle, which saw him sent to the bin and the hosts exploited the numbers difference quickly as they scored their fourth try of the half.

Sixteen points the deficit at half time, but Grabham looked determined to make up for his first-half error as he bagged two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

In the final 10 minutes, the away side reverted to their power game as a series of maul drives and strong scrimmaging saw them spread the ball out wide where Tudor raced over the try line.

In the final play of the match, Bridgend added their second try of a highscoring affair.

Jamie Murphy’s pinpoint pass saw Chris John through the Rams defence and the scond-row forward raced from halfway.

Will Barraclough, formerly of Bridgend Athletic, was on hand for support and raced over for his second try of preseason.
